About Aaron B. Epling

Aaron B. Epling is an Ohio attorney whose practice is limited to estate planning and probate. He helps individuals and families create practical estate plans and guides fiduciaries and families through the administration of estates and trusts after death. Over the course of his practice, Aaron has prepared thousands of wills and assisted clients with hundreds of estates and trusts.

That experience has given him a practical perspective on estate planning: not only how documents should be written, but how they actually work when incapacity or death makes them necessary. His approach focuses on helping clients understand the choices they are making, why those choices matter, and how wills, trusts, powers of attorney, beneficiary designations, property ownership, and other parts of an estate plan work together.

Aaron is the author of Things Change When People Die: A Practical Guide to Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney, and the Decisions That Matter Most. The book reflects the same approach he uses in his practice—making complicated estate-planning concepts understandable enough that people can make deliberate decisions about their families, property, and futures.

Aaron lives in Hilliard, Ohio with his wife, Tiffany, and their three daughters.

Where were you born and where did you grow up?
I was born in Gallipolis, Ohio, and grew up in Bidwell, just outside Gallipolis.

What is the most important thing you do for clients?
Our motto is “Helping Clients Navigate a Complex World,” and I think that describes our work very well. Estate planning and probate can involve unfamiliar rules, difficult decisions, and important consequences. My job is to help clients understand their options, make deliberate decisions, and move through the process with confidence.

What do you want clients to experience when working with Epling Law Office?
I want clients to discover that working with a law office does not have to be intimidating or unnecessarily complicated. We work hard to make the process organized, understandable, and as easy to navigate as possible.

What do you appreciate most from clients?
I appreciate clients who ask thoughtful and difficult questions. Good questions often lead to better planning, and they sometimes make me reconsider an issue from a perspective I had not considered before.

What makes you most proud of Epling Law Office?
I am proud that we have built a culture where people can enjoy working together while still taking our responsibility to clients very seriously. A good workplace ultimately helps us provide better service.

What do you do in your free time?
Most of my free time is spent with my wife and daughters. I also enjoy golf, playing guitar, following Ohio State football, and rooting for the Cincinnati Bengals.

What is a fun fact about you that most people don’t know?
I once made a hole-in-one while playing golf by myself. Fortunately, I was playing through a foursome, and they were standing on the green when the ball went in—so I actually had witnesses.

Do you have a favorite quote or motto?
A Warren Buffett observation that has stayed with me is the idea that one of the keys in life is figuring out who you want to “be the batboy for.” I have found that its meaning changes at different stages of life, but the basic lesson—choose carefully whose example you follow—continues to resonate with me.

Cat. I admire their independence.
